Welcome to the first ever Leamington Poetry Festival!  This July we will be hosting over 50 poets of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, from famous faces to nervous newcomers. If you are a poet, a poetry enthusiast or perhaps simply one of the town's many poetry-curious we hope you join us. Let's all get involved and share some "lines, rhymes and poetry good times"!

OUR VENUES are located 2 minutes' walk from each other in Leamington Spa town centre: 
  • Temperance art cafe, 33 Bath Street, Leamington Spa, CV31 3AF (Friday & Sunday events)

A Poet's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse

The economy has crumbled, politics has turned our society on its head, the apocalypse is here. What we need is a strategy to help us navigate this bleak political landscape.  Join lefty poets Emma Ireland, Spike Pike, Sophie Sparham and Mike Took for their Edinburgh preview show

Stand-Up Poetry in Your Pants

Come and share a riotous evening with our comedy tag-team of  the hilarious Heather Bryson-Banks and Dan Webber with the Black Country legend Spoz for a stand-up evening of  irreverent rhyme and comic rudery!  Age 16+

Poetry Book Fair

An open market place of poetry publishing, where local and  visiting festival poets can make their wares available to interested punters.  Open to the public, just drop in and see what takes your fancy.  To reserve a spot as a seller email enquiries@leamingtonpoetryfestival.org

Matt Black's Poetry Perambulation

Try and spot Matt today if you are out and about in town doing a bit of shopping or meeting friends!  He is roving around Leamington sharing some lines, rhymes and poetry good times with an unsuspecting public!  If you see him, ask him for a verse or two or offer your own!

FREE WORKSHOP with Nigel Hutchinson

Word Mining - The joys of 'found poetry'. Participants are invited to bring a text of their choice, maybe something you're not familiar with, perhaps a maths text book, a recipe book a cycling magazine,or even an old notebook."

FREE WORKSHOP with Gary Carr

Reintroducing the Sonnet - what sits behind the form? How can we adapt it? Looking briefly at the sonnet’s history and malleability and write work based on the underlying ideas, pushing beyond form to test the sonnet’s relevance for today.  Suitable for developing writers.

FREE WORKSHOP with Emilie Lauren-Jones

Exploring List Poetry - delve into the world of 'list poetry' in this hour long workshop. There will be the opportunity to discuss and consider examples of this fantastic, fun and often thought-provoking form of poetry before having a go yourself. Suitable for all abilities.

Poetry of the Pioneers

Poetry dedicated to the town's young people, including performance and a Q&A with the Warwickshire Young Poet Laureate, poetry from featured Leamington school poetry teams and a Young Poets Open Mic session, open to anyone aged under 18 that wants to share their work.

Poetry of Peace and Reconciliation

Spend a wonderfully inspiring hour of poetry dedicated to finding pathways to understanding in our eternally troubled times.  Join local 

Midlands poets Roy Mcfarlane, Julie Boden and Antony Owen as they share their  insightful , calming and thought-provoking poetry.

She Grrrowls is a feminist arts night based at London’s Poetry Café, featuring women and non-binary people. Since 2013 it has been featuring poetry, comedy, music & everything in between.  "A ravishing,

fierce and funny showcase of some of the best mouths in town.”

Cov Poets: The Best of Fire & Dust

Fire & Dust is another of the region's premier poetry open mic nights, taking place on the first Thursday of every month at Coventry's Big Comfy Bookshop. We are delighted to be welcoming host Raef Boylan and some of his selected regulars to share  some of their finest work.

Slam Leamington!  Poetry Slam Championship
